It is important to be aware of the important issues related to politics, healthcare, environment, business, careers, and technology. It is just as important to be aware of cultural oriented news. Whether it be the culture of a generation or of an ethnicity. Understanding cultural topics like sports, entertainment, music, and fashion help us understand people who are very different from oneself. Which is why understanding of trivial topics is not really trivial at all.
In regards to Perspective, people often ask me "who is your target market?" Most people are caught off guard when I tell them "the general public."
Knowledge is power. An adult that has very basic insight on the future of animation is more likely to connect with children compared to a man that doesn't even know who Walt Disney is. A single man that has very basic insight on the future of beauty products is more likely to date women than a man who has never seen one wear lipstick (their are few countries where lipstick is not sold believe it or not). No topic or subject matter should be ignored 100% just because one is not interested in the topic or feels it is "irrelevant" for their personal life.
By understanding a future outlook of "trivial" topics one can understand a broader outlook of people of different age ranges and cultures. Targeted media keeps people in a bubble. Perspective expands peoples minds and interest.
